Planning has just been submitted for works to another existing dwelling in the South Downs National Park. The property is an old school house dating back to the 1840s that has had multiple low quality extensions and alterations over a number of years.

Our proposal involves the removal of these elements and creation of new modern extension forms. The 2-storey rear element is a volume replica of the existing historical building, clad in vertical timber with modern glazing and detailing. A small rear projection pushes further out into the garden space to create an L-shaped open plan living space at the back of the house, which is a juxtaposition to the more regularised internal spaces in the front section of the building.

As part of the works, the project also includes the removal of a low quality garage and replacement with a new double-storey black timber clad outbuilding that provides a more usable garage space with guest bedroom above.

Thanks as ever to Atlas Planning Group for their assistance with this project.
