The Dementia Ward at St. Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight has been handed over following a lightning-fast refurbishment. Crownpark Builders completed the works in 9 weeks, with the first design meeting held only 3 months ago.
Research into dementia over the last few years has changed how we respond to these patients’ needs and their environment. Although only a few years since the last improvements were made, simple changes to the surroundings will have a noticeable effect on the lives of those suffering with this condition.
The majority of the work has been in creating a more open social area for them to spend time in, and upgrading the shower rooms. In addition, all the areas have been redecorated and simple colour-coding and signage will help reduce the frustrations the symptoms of dementia can bring.
