Theatres 8 & 9 at Southampton General Hospital were officially opened by Joann Hall, (Theatres Services Care Group Manager) on 12th October.
The two theatre suites were handed over to Brymor Construction on 14th July and the area was completely stripped out, including remodelling to include some redundant areas into the scheme. One of the theatres has been equipped with the latest endoscopic AV equipment, and the other designed to take a mobile radiation treatment machine. Both have been brought in to the 21st century in their finishes and services. The work was phased, which included updating the air handling equipment in the plant room earlier in the year, ready to swap over in the quieter summer period for the theatres to be able to close.
Taking the design from feasibility to completion, including user briefing, we designed the project in 3D with an information-rich model, aiding in coordination and scheduling. The design had to allow for the work to be carried out in the live theatre department.
