About the project
Currently, under construction, Studio Four were appointed to design a new research and education building for school students at Southampton General Hospital.
This development will extend the Southampton Centre for Biomedical Research, working across disciplines involving Nutrition, Cancer, Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Musculoskeletal. The intention is to improve science literacy, alter health-related behaviours and reduce the burden of non-communicable disease. In addition, it is intended to increase children’s career interests in science and healthcare.
Lifelab will be constructed on an existing flat roof at D Level. It will be built around an existing light well, providing additional natural light. Accommodation includes 2 dry teaching areas, 2 wet teaching areas, prep rooms and support accommodation
