Winchester City Council’s Planning committee has granted permission for 24 new houses and flats, with a replacement Youth Hall, on a prominent site at Bishop’s Waltham.
Located next to the Sainsbury’s Local store, and containing the existing Youth Hall, the former Elms Hut Health Centre and Fox Garden Machinery workshop, this plot has long been regarded as an eyesore at the edge of the town.
Country Homes originally submitted a Planning application in 2017, and since then discussions have been ongoing with the Planners, Parish Council, Youth Hall, English Heritage, Historic England and local residents. The latest scheme submitted in December last year is now supported by the majority of these organisations and, more importantly, by the public, so even though the scheme was recommended for refusal by the Planners, the Committee over-ruled them by 5 votes to 4.
Country Homes is delighted to have finally come up with a successful proposal for the site and is looking forward to carrying out this high quality development.
