The Hospital required two new hybrid cath labs to replace the existing facility which had reached the end of its life and was under sized. We designed a new building that connects to the existing Cardiology ward and provides direct emergency ambulance access as well. Along with the new theatres, a 10 bed day ward is included and support facilities so the unit can operate independently of the adjacent ward.

The Trust wanted to try Modern Methods of Construction and the scheme was designed for a modular Design & Build solution. Darwin Group won the tender and produced a volumetric modular hybrid solution that worked with the tender design as expected. The modular part for the clinical floor, and a hybrid roof to house the plantroom.

A design competition for a unit logo was held with Barton Peveril College, Graphic Design students, which was won by Ethan Ford. This is now proudly displayed on the side of the building through to all the internal room signs.
