Having spent almost 12 of the last 18 months in the Falkland Islands, Rhiannon North has returned from the final period of her secondment to Ramboll; just in time for her second winter of the year!
She was assisting with Architectural Consultancy advice and site inspections on a number of Defence and Community projects on the Islands, both East and West. It was a varied and unique experience and very rewarding despite the challenges involved, some of which were exacerbated by the remoteness of the Islands and the unpredictable weather.
It wasn’t all work though: during her secondment Rhiannon embraced the opportunities available outside the work environment. She walked the majority of the mountains, went to many locations key to the 1982 conflict, visited all the pubs in Stanley, sailed in the South Atlantic Ocean, travelled to some of the more remote outer islands, released a weather balloon, and got “hands on” with aircraft and equipment at several capability days where various military units presented their specialist skills. She was lucky enough to see orca, dolphins, sealions, leopard seals, four of the five species of resident penguins and many other animals and birds in their natural environments.
She’s now based in our Southampton office, utilising her MOD experience to assist Phil Amey in the completion of some of the Falklands projects, as well as new challenges.
