The first phase of the Thorner’s Court flats refurbishment in Southampton has been handed over, with the first tenants moving in this week and the contractors, Mountjoy, moving onto the next phase following a short period of preparations.
Each of the flats has been fully refurbished and some have also been remodelled to improve the layouts, which were last altered in 1999. The work has been split into 3 phases to allow the existing tenants to stay within the building during the works.
Each flat has a new open-plan kitchen, new shower room, fitted wardrobe within the bedroom and rewiring with new heating.
To improve the comfort within the flats, Brise Soleil have been added to the sun facing elevations, and as the shadows in the photos show, have been doing their job in the recent hot weather.
In the shared lounge the kitchen has been opened up to provide a much better communal space.
Thorner’s Homes is a registered Almshouse Charity, founded in 1690, whose objectives have now widened to cover single women in need over the age of 55, but capable of living independently.
