About the project
This project started as a feasibility study to extend and refurbish an existing two-storey dwelling but then progressed to become an entire rebuild with integrated double garage. Planning permission has been granted for the new build, which is almost twice the area of the existing house, with a further storey within the roof space. The design responds to the two sides of the site: the riverside elevation consists of two wings, both predominantly glazed and with balconies which offer fantastic views to the water along; the road-facing elevation has been designed to appear of a lesser scale, softening the perceived size of the building. The main entrance to the new home is clearly marked within a tall section of glazing with gallery space behind.
Internally the five-bedroom dwelling contains a generous living room, spacious kitchen and dining area, utility room, study and en-suites. There is a double height space within the centre of the house and triple height space adjacent the stairs. The building is future proofed to allow for adapting the study into a further bedroom with en-suite. There is even the option to infill over the double height space to form a further room or seventh bedroom.
Studio Four have been commissioned to prepare working drawings for an anticipated start on site date during 2017.
